Company History

PT BRI Multifinance Indonesia (BRI Finance) originated from the establishment of PT Sari Usaha Leasing in 1983 as a joint venture between The Sanwa Bank Limited, Japan and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) based on Notarial Deed No. 156 which was made before Kartini Muljadi, SH., A Notary in Jakarta and approved by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia through Decree No. C2-7596-HT.01.01.TH'83 dated November 25, 1983 and announced in the State Gazette Gazette No. 102 Supplement No. 1079 dated December 23, 1983. BRI Finance is one of the pioneers of finance companies in Indonesia. The company received a permit from a finance company from the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia based on Decree No. KEP-465 / KM.11 / 1983 dated December 7, 1983. In the same year, the Company changed its name to PT Sanwa-BRI Leasing.

In 1991, the Company changed its license to become a business company based on the Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia No. 393 / KMK.013 / 1991 dated April 26, 1991 and together with the Company that renamed PT Sanwa-BRI Finance.

Along with the merger process carried out by The Sanwa Bank Ltd, Japan became The UFJ Bank Ltd, Japan, the name of the Company which was adjusted to become PT UFJ-BRI Finance in 2002. A new company name that provides easier development opportunities to get business support and greater financial shareholders. Once again, the merger process carried out by the shareholders of The UFJ Bank Ltd, Japan became Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Limited, Japan, making the Company relate the company name to PT BTMU-BRI Finance in 2008. With this change, as a joint venture between The BTMU Ltd, Japan and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, the Company benefited from strong support from the network and financial networks to strengthen the Company's position in the Financing industry in Indonesia.

On September 30, 2016, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. and the Bank Rakyat Indonesia Workers Welfare Foundation bought BTMU-BRI Finance shares from Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd, Japan. Share ownership of the official Company of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk in the amount of 99% and the Bank Rakyat Indonesia Employee Welfare Foundation of 1%. Along with the transfer of shares, the Company's name changed from PT BTMU-BRI Finance to PT BRI Multifinance Indonesia with the BRI Finance trademark. This change makes BRI Finance as part of the largest integrated financial and financial services in Indonesia to support positions in the Indonesian financial industry.

In December 2018, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. has added paid up capital of Rp100 billion. Capital addition is carried out to support the investment in the Company's information system in the development of consumer financing which will become the Company's focus in the future.

At present the Company has a network of 20 (twenty) major Indonesian cities between Medan, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Lampung, Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, Cirebon, Bandung, Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, Malang, Banyuwangi, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Samarinda, Banjarmasin and Makassar. In addition, by synergizing with BRI's Parent Company, the Company provides for needy customers in other cities. The company will continue to develop the network in accordance with the Company's plan to continue to develop and grow. In accordance with the Company's vision to become the leading finance company with integrated services, the Company is supported to fulfill all financial needs by prioritizing comfort and facilitating for customers by synergizing the BRI Group.

Application of the Principles of Good Corporate Governance

In engaging its business activity, the Company committed to comply with the laws and regulations as well as prioritizing moral and ethic principles, also conducting business practice in fair and healthy way. The Company has already implemented Good Corporate Governance principles in accordance with the Regulation of the Financial Services Authority number: 30/POJK.05/2014 regarding Good Corporate Governance For Finance Companies (“Tata Kelola Perusahaan Yang Baik Bagi Perusahaan Pembiayaan”) consists of following aspects: Transparency, Accountability, Responsibility, Independency, and Fairness. The Company also launched Good Corporate Governance Guidelines as a working guidance and foundation for all lines and functions within the Company. The Company is supported by the units who are taking care of Compliance, Risk Management as well as Internal Audit.
